UNDERSTANDING WARTS & SKIN TAGS
What Are These Skin Growths?
Warts and skin tags are both common skin growths, but they develop for very different reasons. Warts are caused by infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV), while skin tags are benign overgrowths of skin tissue.
Understanding what we're treating matters. A wart requires a different approach than a skin tag, and not every bump or growth that appears on the skin should be treated cosmetically.

How Aerolase helps
Why Aerolase for Warts & Skin Tags?
Aerolase Neo Elite uses a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength that penetrates into the skin, allowing laser energy to be delivered precisely to the tissue being treated while limiting unnecessary heating of the surrounding skin.
With warts, the goal is to disrupt the blood supply supporting the wart and thermally damage the affected tissue. Because warts are caused by HPV within the skin, they can be persistent and may require more than one treatment.
Skin tags are different. They are benign growths rather than viral lesions, so treatment is focused on the unwanted tissue itself. Small, appropriate skin tags can be treated precisely while minimizing disruption to the surrounding skin.
Treatment parameters are selected according to what we're treating - including the type, size, thickness and location of the growth.
Assessment Comes First
Not every skin growth is appropriate for laser treatment. If a lesion is unusual, changing or unclear, medical assessment may be recommended first.

What to expect
Before, During & After
Before
We'll assess the growth, review the area and make sure it is appropriate for treatment. If there is any uncertainty about what we're looking at, medical assessment may be recommended before proceeding.
During
Laser energy is delivered directly to the targeted growth. Treatment is usually quick, although the sensation and treatment time will vary depending on the number, size and location of the lesions.
After
The treated area may appear red or darker and may develop a small crust as it heals. Avoid picking or disturbing the area and follow the aftercare instructions provided. Healing time varies depending on what was treated and the size of the area.
Not Every Skin Growth Should Be Removed
Warts and skin tags are usually benign, but many different skin lesions can look similar. At Woodland, treatment starts with determining whether the growth appears appropriate for cosmetic removal - not simply removing anything that looks unwanted.
If something doesn't look typical or there is uncertainty about what it is, we won't treat it until it has been appropriately assessed.
