SKIN CONCERN

Dry, Dehydrated & Dull Skin

Comfortable, hydrated skin starts with a healthy barrier.

Dryness, dehydration and dullness can leave skin feeling tight, rough, flaky or less radiant. While they can look similar, they don't always have the same cause. Understanding what your skin is lacking helps us restore hydration, barrier function and a healthier-looking glow.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR SKIN

What causes dry, dehydrated & dull skin?

Dryness, dehydration and dullness often occur together, but they describe different changes in the skin. Dry skin lacks oil, dehydrated skin lacks water, and dull skin reflects changes in hydration, surface texture and cell turnover.

They don't always need the same thing.

Dry skin may need lipid and barrier support, while dehydrated skin needs help restoring and retaining water. Dullness may improve with hydration, barrier repair or gentle exfoliation depending on the cause. Understanding what's driving the change helps us choose treatment without over-exfoliating or further disrupting the skin barrier.

CAUSES & RISK FACTORS

Why does it happen?

Dryness and dehydration develop when skin lacks oil, loses water or struggles to retain moisture. Understanding the cause helps us restore hydration and support the skin barrier without adding irritation.

Low Oil Production

When the skin produces fewer natural oils, it can feel dry, rough or flaky and may have more difficulty maintaining a healthy protective barrier.

Water Loss

Dehydration occurs when the skin loses more water than it can retain, which can leave it feeling tight and make fine dehydration lines more noticeable.

Barrier Disruption

When the skin barrier is compromised, water escapes more easily and the skin can become dry, sensitive, rough or uncomfortable.

Environment & Lifestyle

Cold weather, dry indoor air, heat, sun exposure and other environmental factors can increase moisture loss and contribute to dullness.

Skin Care Habits

Over-cleansing, over-exfoliation and products that are too harsh for the skin can disrupt the barrier, increasing dryness and dehydration.
